Functional Medicine & Nutrition

Nutrition is the most effective preventative medicine on the planet. We are what we eat.

Somehow in our post-Industrial world we have lost track of the importance of the effects of food on our wellness, and are often fed misleading and false information. And as the saying goes, “we are what we eat.” However what and how to eat can actually be quite complicated. Especially in our country where BIG business is made from diets, fads, trends and supplements. It is overwhelming to navigate these waters with our genetics and constitution in mind.

Margaret has been trained in both eastern and western nutrition and in the school of life. What may work for one person may not work for another. Furthermore, our food system has been corrupted and manipulated by industry forces that make once wholesome foods quite toxic and inflammatory. As a doctor and a mom, food is a passion of Margaret’s. She loves helping people discover the right fuel and nourishment that fits their lifestyle and their body. Once we find what foods are optimal for your body, we can begin to delete the need for supplements allowing more money for higher quality foods.

“Food education and guidance takes precedence over all in my treatment setting. With each treatment we discuss and review your diet to make sure what you are eating is seasonally best for your body for the condition we are treating. ”

MARGARET HAMPTON, DACM

Have you had blood work done lately?

Dr. Hampton utilizes Functional medicine and bloodwork when applicable. Functional medicine, like Chinese medicine, is another system that helps identify the root cause of disease or illness. Getting blood tests can tell us a lot about our bodies and what food we need to be eating, and what supplements we actually need to be taking.

Common Functional medicine tests include:

  • Micronutrient tests: which test a range of nutrient levels in body that are necessary for optimal health

  • Genova Stool test: measure how your body breaking food down, as well as the your bacteria and fungus present in your microbiome

  • Blood Metal tests: what harmful metals may be circulating in your blood and tissues

  • Food allergy testing: an important tool if what you are eating is contributing to your current symptoms and mood
